As announced In April, Malta Enterprise will be implementing a number of schemes to assist businesses that were largely hit by the COVID-19 restrictions.
Rent refund scheme
- Businesses that had to close down following the Legal Notices issued by the Health Authorities in March 2021 are eligible for this scheme.
- Those businesses that have been receiving the wage supplement since 2020 and availed themselves of the ‘Rent Refund Scheme 2020’ will now be eligible for a top-up of 50% on the amount received last year.
- New applicants that were forced to close in March-April 2021 and benefitted from the wage supplement, are eligible for a refund as per below.

- A simplified application process will be adopted by Malta Enterprise. All eligible businesses (already registered and new) will be notified by email from Malta Enterprise around mid-July.
Those businesses that in 2020 received the Rent Refund and whose rental contract is still valid, will not be required to resubmit the contract.
Electricity Refund Scheme
- Businesses that had to close down following the Legal Notices issued by the Health Authorities in March 2021 are eligible for this scheme.
- The aid is 50% of the electricity bills covering the months June-August 2021 as per below capping

- Applicants that benefitted from the ‘Electricity refund scheme 2020’ will be required to submit a simplified application.
- New applicants who only benefitted from the wage supplement March-April 2021 will need to submit a full application.
- In the coming months, an email will be sent by Malta Enterprise to the eligible applicants, directing them to the application.
One-time grant
- Businesses that were ordered to remain closed after 10th May 2021 and are benefitting from the Wage Supplement, will also be eligible for a one-time cash grant of €1,000.
- Potential applicants will be informed by email from Malta Enterprise, guiding them to a simple application.
